Dear Mr. Burdell:

Thank you for establishing a scholarship at Georgia Tech. It is an honor to be the recipient for this year.

I thought you might enjoy learning a little about me. This is my sophomore year at Tech; my major is ____________. The classes I have enjoyed the most are _______________, ______________ and ____________. When I graduate, I hope to work for a Fortune 500 company. I think that a large firm would give me the most in-depth experience. After several years in the workforce, I hope to pursue my MBA.

My family is relatively small, just my parents and a younger sister. My sister is a senior in high school. She hopes to attend Vassar College in the fall. My Dad is a high school math teacher, and Mom is a nurse at the local hospital. They have worked hard to make sure that my sister and I never wanted for anything and could attend college.

Outside of school, I enjoy swimming, canoeing and camping. Being in the quiet of the wilderness is refreshing and invigorating. It provides me the opportunity to think about my future. Additionally, I enjoy reading books on leadership and biography. Here on campus, I have joined DramaTech.

It would be a pleasure if we could meet sometime. Until then, however, please accept my thanks and appreciation for your scholarship. Someday I hope I will be able to help other young people with their education.

Sincerely,
helena

Dear Mr. Burdell:

As a recipient of the _____________ Scholarship, I would like to thank you for the opportunity it has given this semester. I am a first-year Chemical Engineering major from a small town in Nebraska .

Because of this scholarship, I have been able to accomplish ________________, ______________, and ______________. Your support has kept me from worrying so much about the cost of out-of-state tuition, and it has made it possible for my widowed Mom to arrange piano lessons for my little sister. I am enclosing a snapshot of my sister at her first recital.

City life in Atlanta is different from the plains of Nebraska , but I am adjusting and have made many new friends here on campus. I am active in the __________, _________, and _________. I look forward to my college career and want to keep you updated on my progress.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Burdell:

My parents were as happy as I was to find out that I have received the ______________ Scholarship for this academic year. On behalf of my family, I want to thank you for this opportunity.

Both my parents work. Dad is an insurance agent back in New Jersey , and Mom teaches kindergarten. I have twin brothers at home who are in high school. I have always enjoyed science and math so being accepted at Georgia Tech was a dream come true. I plan to Co-op even though it will take longer to get out, but I'm not sure whether I will major in Biology or International Affairs.

My professors are very demanding, and I am learning to study from my buddies here on campus. The food is ok. Did you know that Brittain Dining Hall has been renovated?

I'm crazy about the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. My roommate and I go to all the games at Grant Field. Here's a snapshot of us. He's the one in the Buzz suit. Thanks again for your support.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Burdell:

I am a fifth year senior and could not have made it through this last year at Georgia Tech if I hadn't qualified for the ______________ Scholarship. What a relief! The demands of my class and lab schedules preclude my working even part-time, and I have a design project that will take a lot of time to complete this semester.

During my time here I have worked a variety of jobs on campus that have taught me the value of a dollar and how to handle my finances. I have supplemented that with full-time work during the summers, and have been able to pay most of my expenses.

When I get out, I will be moving to Denver for a job with ABC Associates that I found through Tech's Career Services. The first thing I'm going to do is save up for a new car. I have driven a 1987 Chrysler LeBaron forever, but, one of these days, I'm going to offer it to Tech for the Ramblin' Reck parade.

Thanks a million for all that the ___________ Scholarship has meant to me.

Sincerely,
buzz

Dear Mrs. Burdell:

I am writing to thank you for your continued generosity that makes it possible for me to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology. This is the third year that the Georgia P. Burdell Scholarship has helped me in earning my education. Thank you so much.

It seems as though every year is better than the last with so many new opportunities. When I wrote you last, I was co-oping out of state. That was such a great learning experience. On the first day, my supervisor walked in and told me to redesign a particular part for a huge machine. Then he left. To be honest, I had no idea what to do. This was completely different from class because there were no instructions or anything…just a task that needed doing. It all seemed so difficult, but by the end of the semester I had successfully completed the redesign and had also redesigned another system and updated an important database. I received great reviews from my supervisor and manager and was twice recommended for full-time employment, if I wished, upon graduation.

The spring semester was great as well. I took my first “real” classes in both my majors. It was wonderful to get a better idea of what it means to be an engineer. Now it is fall again, and another school year is beginning. This is my first fall semester since my freshman year, and I love it! There are so many people on campus. I am really excited about my classes, my work, and my involvement with community activities. I do not know everything that will happen this semester, but I know it is going to be incredible.

I am so glad I am going to Georgia Tech, and I enjoy every second of my time here. Equally amazing is Atlanta , though. I grew up in a rural area. Although I love the country, it is awesome going to college in the city.

I really appreciate all of your help. It means a lot to me. Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
