FIVE STEPS TO FINALIZE LOANS - 2

Required Steps for All Borrowers

To apply, complete the FAFSA and Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid (GTAPP) for the appropriate academic year. Indicate on the GTAPP that you want to be considered for loans.

To finalize loans that appear on your Award Notice, complete the following steps.

Step One (complete every year)

  • The online Direct Student Loan Certification*
  • Direct Parent PLUS Loan Request (This application is to be completed by dependent undergraduates working with their parent on the parent portion of the form. To protect security of the information provided, students must log in with their Georgia Tech password. We ask that we receive this certification as soon as possible but no later than July 31st to ensure loan funds are available prior to the first day of class.)*
  • The Direct Grad PLUS Loan Certification (graduate students only)*

*Be sure to complete forms for the appropriate year.

Deadlines:

  • Fall - July 31
  • Spring - December 1
  • Summer - April 1

Step Two (complete once)

Complete Student Loan Counseling. This step is required for the Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Student Loans and for the Graduate PLUS loan.* It is not required for the Parent PLUS loan.

  • Fall - July 31
  • Spring - December 1
  • Summer - April 1

Step Three (complete once)

Sign the electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) now or on receipt of your notice.

Note: MPN requirements will appear as satisfied in BuzzPort beginning July 1. Please allow 2-3 days for BuzzPort to update

Deadlines:

  • Fall - July 31
  • Spring - December 1
  • Summer - April 1

Step Four (complete once unless change of information)

Sign up for Direct Deposit. See the Office of the Bursar for details.

Deadlines:

  • During registration period

Step Five (complete every semester)

Register for at least six credit hours. Disbursements to eligible students begin on the Wednesday before the first day of class.
